Concurrency of MIDlet applications is not new, It is already implemented in some devices like iDen Series. MIDP Expert group has never explicitly laid down any rules for Multiple MIDlets running at the same time. But now that the device capabilities have increased and MIDP Expert Group has made the MIDlet concurrency mandatory. The specification says “MIDP 3.0 specification MUST support the concurrent execution of two or more MIDlets”.

Some of the salient features of this functionality are.

• Each MIDlet will have its own execution context.
• When the user launches the application which is already running a new instance of the application will not be launched. The already running instance will be relaunched.
