Professor
Henry Duckling was born on 1957 to a flower girl from Covent
Garden Market in London. After completing his studies in Textile
Engineering from Pulau Java University in Indonesia, He worked
as a Professor in a couple of universities and had a comfortable
life.
Duckling
and E-Learning
Then some
thing happened in 1997 which changed his life forever. He
chucked his comfortable teaching job and joined a dot com
company as a Chief Instructional Designer. This dot com was
an e-learning portal for hosiery industry.
In 2000
He became CEO after a major reshuffle when all the animals
(This is what Duckling calls CEO's, CTO's, COO's etc) were
fired for non-performance. But Duckling found that these animals
had made a killing in these three years when he checked the
previous accounts and found that the networking wires were
purchased at higher rates, he wondered aloud "Are them
wires made of gold or copper?". He promptly opened a
wire and found that there was no gold in those wires and reported
the same to his promoter Li Yu Chung "there is no gold
in them wires". Four months later the company closed
down for the want of funds just before Duckling's planned
"Go To Market" Strategy.
Duckling
and Mobile Games
Duckling
then went to Himalayas to find out an answer to a question
that was bugging him since long. The question was "What
is life?". He came back to London in 2002 an enlightened
man and told Chung "Life is mobile".
Taking
a cue from his enlightenment he started a Java mobile gaming
startup with Chung's money. This time around, Chung went bankrupt.
In Ducklings own words "All them Service Providers and
Mobile Vendors ganged up against us and didn't publish any
of our games".
Duckling
and J2ME
During
his tenure with these two companies Duckling had become pretty
good with Java technologies. His staff gave him two names
JEME-ed:
meaning J2ME Nerd.
J2ME
Buster: meaning he can solve any problem in J2ME. Some
people also say that this name was given to him because
he had experienced two bursts - dot com bubble burst and
mobile "too many startups" burst.
Finally
Duckling is back to square one. He is back to teaching but
this time e-learning for J2ME. Duckling says "Finally
I have found the meaning of my life - a community portal for
the J2ME-ed". He now lives at South Pole.
